In 2012 I started this documentary photography project about the “trainwriting”scene by going on several missions and adventures together with a group of graffiti writers of different ages, nationalities and sexes. “Trainwriting” has always been one of the most controversial types of graffiti and it achieved an amazing strength in the last 10 years. The “trainwriters” travel the whole world with the purpose of painting graffiti over train cars and subways, while trying to get as many systems as possible.
The purpose of this project is to show the skills and the abilities of the “trainwriters”, which they have to develop and improve in order to be able to achieve all their goals. They bypass security systems like nobody does. Avoiding police and private security guards, disabling surveillance cameras, sensors and security grills, o breaking high-security locks: they do it on a daily basis despite of all the legal risks involved. Even though many of them have died in the attempt, they still want to take the risk and put their life in danger: Vandalism becomes a way of life.
“Sistemas” (“Systems”) shows a group of people defying the law to pursue a dream. No matter how many social and language barriers they encounter on the path: they will find a way to overcome these barriers in order to get another system and have the best collection.
